Top 10 Countries with the Most Airports in the World

By Altis Lo (beaulife) of BestBuyIdea.com

According to the 2001 statistics, the top 10 countries having the most airports are listed below:

(1) 14,695 - United States of America
(2) 3,365 - Brazil
(3) 2,743 - Russia
(4) 1,852 - Mexico
(5) 1,419 - Canada
(6) 1,369 - Argentina
(7) 1,109 - Bolivia
(8) 1,066 - Colombia
(9) 899 - Paraguay
(10) 740 - South Africa

Let's review the population (ranking in the world in bracket) below:

United States of America - 306,047,000 (3)
Brazil - 188,432,000 (5)
Russia - 141,743,000 (9)
Mexico - 106,682,500 (11)
Canada - 33,509,000 (36)
Argentina - 39,745,613 (31)
Bolivia - 9,525,000 (86)
Colombia - 44,660,000 (29)
Paraguay - 6,127,000 (103)
South Africa - 47,850,700 (26)
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population)

No doubt, Mainland China has the most population (1,335,680,000 - rank no. 1) and India has (1,142,660,000 - rank no. 2), but they do not have so many airports, and not even in the top 10 list. Hence, the number of airports has less or no relationship with populations. In my opinion, it could have direct relationship with the volume of business (import/export, international trade etc), because of the demand and supply. Transportation is in high demand when the demand from economy development is high, hence number of airports is the supply to aid in business.

Malaysia has population of 27,757,000 (rank no. 43) as at 27th December 2008, and 15 airports in Kuala Lumpur (serves as international airport), Senai (Johor), Penang, Miri (Sarawak), Alor Star (Kedah), Langkawi, Ipoh (Perak), Subang (Selangor), Melaka, Kuantan (Pahang), Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu), Kota Bharu (Kelantan), Sibu (Sarawak), Bintulu (Sarawak), Labuan, Sandakan (Sabah), Tawau (Sabah) and Lahad Datu (Sabah).

Hence there are still room for us to improve our economy, import/export, international trade and other areas to become a more developed country. Let's make it happen
